All of the species live in the Southern hemisphere. Many live at the South Pole on Antarctica. But some don't live in such cold places. They are found on the coasts of South America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Galapagos Islands.-KiDzOnE-FAITH
Most of the animals of Antarctica live on the edge and coast or in the water surrounding the continent. There are no animals who live on land and have bones that live in Antarctica. All of the animals with bones live on the edge and sometimes live in the water.
All the vertebrates there need the ocean and the plants and animals in it for food. There is not food for them on land in Antarctica. The only animals that really live on land in Antarctica are animals that do not have bones and are only a few millimeters long!
The oceans surrounding the continent on the other hand are filled with all different kinds of animals. This includes whales, seals, penguins and other birds.
Large numbers of whales feed on the rich marine life, especially krill. The entire area around Antarctica has been declared an international whale sanctuary (whales are protected around Antarctica).-pink table

Penguins have many adaptations to help them live in their enviorments
and generally cold places.-Ananya

Penguins do not live in the Arctic because the North Pole has less ice than the South Pole.-Faith
Penguins generally live on islands and remote locations that are free of land predators, where their inability to fly is not detrimental to their survival. -Ryan - Seaworld's Penguin page

  • All 17 species of penguins live in the Southeren Hemisphere.
  • Penguins are found on every continent in the Southern Hemisphere
  • They are abundant on many temperate and subantarctic islands
  • Penguins generally live on islands and remote continental regions free from land predators, where their inability to fly is not detrimental to their survival.
  • These marine birds are adapted to living at sea - some species spend as much as 75% of their lives at sea.
  • Penguins are usually found near nutrient-rich, cold-water currents that provide an abundant supply of food
  • Different species thrive in varying climates, ranging from Galapagos penguins on tropical islands at the equator to Emperor penguins restricted to the pack ice of Antarctica.
Temperate penguin species inhabit tropical climates

These penguins are adapted to survive in the freezing climate of Antartica

Penguins live in the southern half of the world. You can find them on the shores of Antarctica. Antarctica is a very large area covered in ice. It is too cold for people, but perfect for penguins.

Penguins also live in the south of :

  • Australia

  • New Zealand

  • America

  • Africa.

There is ice in Canada and the Arctic. But penguins don't live in the northern half of the world.

The most northerly place that penguins live is on the Galapagos Islands. The Galapagos Islands are near Ecuador in South America.

Penguins do not usually live near people. But they are not afraid of us. We can watch penguins more easily than most birds.---Chloe

The Galapagos Islands are located 600 miles off the coast of South America in the eastern Pacific Ocean. These islands are of volcanic origin and most were formed due to a hotspot under the earth. Their isolation has brought about their great biodiversity, where species vary from island to island. The King penguin lives on islands far to the north of the Antarctic continent where the Emperor penguin lives.-google-Faith

Penguins don't live near freshwater -- at least none that isn't frozen. KiDzOnE-FaItH

Snares Penguins are found on the sheltered beaches of the Snares Islands, off the southern coast of New Zealand.-Animal File-Faith

Galapagos Penguins are mainly found on Fernandina Island and on the west coast of Isabella Island, but small populations are also found scattered on other islands in the Galapagos archipelago.-Animal File-Faith

Gentoo Penguins have a circumpolar distribution and are found on islands in the antarctic region. The main colonies are found on the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Kerguelen Islands and smaller colonies are found on Macquarie Island, Heard Islands, South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Magellanic Penguins are found around the coast line of Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands. They spend their time at sea and when they come ashore to breed they form large colonies.

Humboldt Penguins are found around the coast of Chile and Peru. They spend most of their time at sea but when they come ashore to breed they form large colonies.

African Penguins are found around the coast of south Africa. They spend their time at sea hunting for food or they form colonies on the rocky shores when they are breeding.-Animal File-Faith
